We are seeking an experienced, dynamic and motivated Director of Care to lead the clinical operations of our 140-bed residential aged care facility.


Position Summary

The Director of Care is responsible for the strategic and operational leadership of all clinical services within a 140-bed residential aged care facility. This role provides leadership across clinical governance, workforce management, quality improvement, compliance and resident care, ensuring the highest standards of clinical excellence are achieved.

Working closely with the Executive Team, the Director of Care will lead multidisciplinary teams, oversee clinical operations, ensure compliance with all legislative and regulatory requirements, and foster a culture of accountability, professionalism and continuous improvement.


Key Responsibilities

Clinical Leadership

  • Provide strategic clinical leadership across the facility.
  • Ensure the delivery of safe, effective and person-centred care.
  • Lead best-practice clinical initiatives and evidence-based care.
  • Oversee comprehensive resident assessments, care planning and clinical reviews.
  • Manage complex clinical issues and support clinical decision-making.
  • Ensure effective medication management and infection prevention and control programs.
  • Monitor clinical indicators and implement improvement strategies where required.

Operational Management

  • Manage the day-to-day clinical operations of a 140-bed residential aged care facility.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing levels and effective workforce planning across all shifts.
  • Coordinate resident admissions, discharges and occupancy management.
  • Monitor operational performance and service delivery outcomes.
  • Support organisational strategic objectives through effective clinical leadership.
  • Work collaboratively with department managers to ensure efficient facility operations.

Leadership & People Management

  • Lead, coach and mentor Registered Nurses, Enrolled Nurses, Personal Care Workers and Allied Health staff.
  • Build a high-performing clinical team focused on excellence in resident care.
  • Conduct recruitment, onboarding, performance reviews and staff development.
  • Manage employee performance, coaching and disciplinary processes in accordance with organisational policies.
  • Promote employee engagement, teamwork and professional development.
  • Support succession planning and leadership development within the clinical team.

Essential Selection Criteria

Qualifications

  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA.
  • Bachelor of Nursing (minimum qualification).
  • Current National Police Check.
  • Current NDIS Worker Screening Check (where applicable).
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Evidence of required vaccinations in accordance with aged care legislation.

Essential Experience

  • Minimum five years’ experience in a senior clinical leadership role within residential aged care.
  • Demonstrated experience managing a residential aged care facility with approximately 140 beds or larger.
  • Proven experience leading large multidisciplinary clinical teams.
  • Extensive experience in workforce planning, rostering and staff management.
  • Demonstrated success leading accreditation processes and maintaining compliance with the Aged Care Quality Standards.
  • Experience managing complex clinical, operational and workforce issues.
  • Strong understanding of clinical governance and quality improvement frameworks.
  • Experience managing budgets and clinical resources.

Desirable Criteria

  • Postgraduate qualification in Leadership, Management, Aged Care, Health Management or Clinical Nursing.
  • Experience managing large residential aged care facilities (120–150+ beds).
  • Accreditation survey experience.
  • Experience implementing organisational change and service improvement initiatives.
  • Knowledge of electronic clinical management and workforce planning systems.
